Xuan (Jessie) is a Senior Principal and a biostatistician with BSP whose engagements have focused primarily on the firm’s Business and Clinical Strategy and Health Economics segments. Her recent projects include:

Business and Clinical Strategy:
  • Assessed product preference for an ex-US market to inform a life sciences company on international growth opportunities
  • Informed marketing strategies for a medical device company on geospatial mapping for targeting of peritoneal dialysis patients and providers through developing methods for in-depth analysis of patient samples
  • Provided recommendations for evaluating the impact of hypotension on clinical outcomes of sepsis patients to support the launch of a software that analyzes mean arterial pressure readings to predict patient probability for a hypotensive event
Health Economics and Outcomes Research:
  • Directed an EHR analysis on the impact of fluid volumes during the perioperative period on the outcome of non-cardiac surgeries and a machine learning prediction of fluid volumes to support our client’s Assisted Fluids Management technology
  • Supported the launch of  novel medications for pharmaceutical clients by investigating the treatment patterns, healthcare utilization and cost in patients with major depression disorder or post traumatic stress disorder using Truven Health MarketScan database
  • Implemented a new evidence-based methodology for surveillance strategies to better detect recurrence of colorectal cancer to further provide endorsement of the economic impact of clients’ product with the help of a calibrated Markov microsimulation model in TreeAge
  • Generated robust clinical evidence on the cost-effectiveness of a client’s product for hemostasis via detailed statistical analyses to evaluate the current state and clinical outcomes of topical thrombin utilization using methods such as inverse probability treatment weighing
  • Promoted the adoption of a Fortune 500 company’s fibrin sealant by analyzing user preference survey data collected during a time and motion study involving nurses and physicians that culminated in a workshop
  • Supported marketing material about the benefit of a non-opioid medication for post-surgical pain management by devising and conducting a series of retrospective EHR analyses
Medical Communications:
  • Supported multiple product marketing tools for pharmaceutical clients, implementing sophisticated statistical analyses for various abstracts and manuscripts

 

Jessie holds an MBBS and PhD in Physiology from Shanxi Medical University and a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Kansas. She worked as a faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center before joining BSP. Her work in medical research has resulted in 29 peer-reviewed publications. In her spare time, Jessie enjoys fitness, reading, and music.
