Data Scientist

Position Description

Boston Strategic Partners, Inc. has an immediate opening for a 40+ hour/week, work-from-home Data Scientist to assist with research using Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other healthcare-related data. Applicants must have previous industry experience analyzing data from gigabyte-to-terabyte databases in Python, PySpark, SQL, or SAS.

Responsibilities

  1. Answer questions and make recommendations to medical and tech teams
  2. Follow bug tracking system and code repository protocols; advise on QC process improvements
  3. Design analysis plans and study protocols; advise on methods to reduce bias
  4. Locate and implement best practices from clinical guidelines and past published research
  5. Document code and write methods sections for plans and publications
  6. Modify existing pyspark/sql code in Jupyter Notebook environment to meet new project specs
  7. Document specifications and changelog
  8. QC code from other coders (code review)
  9. Generate intermediate verification tabulations and reports for medical teams
  10. Document errors/crashes and escalate to programmer/sysops
  11. Identify areas for process improvements
  12. Prepare data for machine learning analysis and run analyses, if required
  13. Investigate, test, and implement optimization techniques

Requirements

  1. 2+ years of industry experience using Python, Spark, SQL required
  2. Version control such as Sourcetree/bitbucket/git required
  3. Experience with AWS EC2 with S3 and hadoop preferred
  4. Graduate level data science, statistics, applied mathematics, engineering with programming experience required
  5. Priority to those with healthcare data experience
  6. Experience in analysis using ICD, CPT, HCPCS, NDC, LOINC, HCUP CCS, SNOMED-CT and other classes
  7. Able to work either independently or within a small team utilizing teleconference or virtual enabling technologies. This is a remote/telecommute “work-from-home” position
  8. Business-level written and verbal presentation skills in English — other languages at the business level a plus!
  9. Ability to travel to client sites (<1% of time)
  10. SAS 9.4 preferred; scikit, xgboost, R optional
