Phil is a Senior Data Scientist with BSP whose engagements have focused primarily on the firm’s Health Economics and Business and Clinical Strategy practices. His recent projects include:

Health Economics:

  • Conducted Health Economics & Outcomes Research for client to evaluate incremental economic impact for complications of sepsis and cirrhosis in the inpatient setting on patient outcomes of hospital and ICU length of stay, and overall costs and charges
  • Supported identification of cost drivers for patients with hepatorenal syndrome by building Generalized Linear Models for a global pharmaceutical company
  • Provided statistical expertise for study design, power estimation and analysis plan to support a large multinational medical device company company’s go/no go decision

Business and Clinical Strategy:

  • Developed BSP monthly awareness report, demonstrating the firm’s capabilities and insights across various disease areas based on EHR data analysis from 720+ US hospitals
  • Supported the launch of a new antidepressant by a large pharmaceutical company, by leveraging claims data to conduct retrospective analysis of healthcare resource utilization and costs
  • Streamlined methodology to automatically provide standardized summary tables for descriptive statistics of patient characteristics for client engagements, thus expediting clinical strategic decisions

Phil holds a PhD in Applied Economics and a MS in Biostatistics from the University of Florida. He is a SAS Certified Clinical Trials Programmer, Advanced Programmer, and Predictive Modeler. He is also proficient in other data science tools such as R and Python. Phil is currently pursing a Master of Computer and Information Technology. Like Billy Beane depicted in Michael Lewis’s bestseller Moneyball, he is passionate about uncovering hidden insights from data and is a big fan of college football.
